Cubs Activity/Game Ideas
Each participating section is responsible for planning an activity station. See How to Contribute a Great Activity for best practices. This page provides the seeds of ideas from previous Beaverees/Cuborees, that you can take to your youth to build on, in case they have no ideas of their own.

- Snowshoe Races - Taken
Equipment:
Snowshoes for Each Youth
2 Ropes or Pylons
Instructions
There is a start point and end point about 10 meters apart
Each team will be behind the starting line with their snow shoes on.
One youth from each team will snowshoe from the start to the finish and back again.
The next youth will then repeat this.
The team who has all their youth cross the line first will win.

Equipment
Pie plates
Kindling
8 tripods for twine
Twine
matches
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
Cubs split into groups of 2 or three depending on group size
A fire is built to burn through the twine that is strung over the pie plate from the tripods approximately 20 inches above the pie plate
First group to burn through the twine wins
All embers must be placed into a can using caution.
3. Log Hauling - Taken
Equipment
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
Each six stands in a line.
The cub at the back of the line will pass the sonotube over their head to the person in front.
They then will go to the front of the line at catch the sonotube from the person at the front of the line.
You are not permitted to around around while touching the sonotube.
You are not permitted to touch the ends of the sonotube.
If the sonotube is dropped then the team must start again from the starting line.
This will continue until one pack reaches the pylon. This first group to pass the pilot wins.
4. Log Sawing - Available
Equipment
Two saw horses or frames to hold a log
two logs secured to the frame
2 long bow saws
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
The youth divide up into groups of 2.
They work together to saw a slab off the log.
The first team to cut through wins.
If more youth on one team cut through first then that team wins.
5. Ski Board Racing - Taken
Equipment
Ski boards with foot holds for youth
Pylons or rope
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
The two groups get into place at the start line.
They work as a team until one group crosses the
finish line.
6. Walk and Scream - Taken
Equipment
- 8 Bean Bags
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
Each pack get 4 bean bags.
All cubs behind starting line.
On the signal start the first cub takes a deep breath and while walking down the coursescreams/yells “at the top of their lungs” (typically
15-20 seconds).
Once they cannot yet anymore (runs out of air) they drop the bean bag.
The next cub repeats the process and if they go farther than the last bean bag they drop theirs and pick up the other one.
The process is repeated until all cubs have a turn.
If a cub fails to scream as loud as they can - they must repeat the process
7.Bean Bag Flow - Taken
Equipment
- 6 Bean Bags
- Bean Bag Throw Board
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
Each pack get 3 bean bags.
All cubs start behind the starting line.
On the signal start the first cub throws the 3 bean bags at the throw board and tries to score the highest they can.
The next cub repeats the process.
The team with the highest score wins
8. Airplane Walk - Taken
Equipment
Youth
Instructions
Divide Cubs into 3 or 4 equal teams
All Cubs behind starting line.
On signal to start one Cub lays on their stomach and four other Cubs pick him/her up at the elbows and knees.
They then walk down the course to the turnaround point where they gently place the Cub being carried on the ground and another Cub takes his/her place lying face down.
Other four Cubs then carry the new Cub back to the start.
The process is repeated until every Cub has had a chance to be the airplane
Notes
If there are unequal teams, the team(s) with a short number must repeat with one Cub so that the same numbers of Cubs have been an
airplane.
First team to have all Cubs carried is the winner
Cubs must hold their body stiff while being carried (No sagging airplanes)
9. Animal Tracks - Available
Equipment
One set of cards with animals
One set of cards with animal tracks
Two cub packs compete against each other.
Instructions
Two cub packs compete against each other.
Each six will try and match the animals to the cards.
Whichever teams does it correctly first wins.
10. Toboggan Fun - Taken
Equipment
3 Toboggans
6 pylons
Instructions
Place the pylons at start and a turnaround point, divide your Cubs into teams, and let the races begin!
Each Cub gets a turn to ride the toboggan, while the other members of the team pull them along. Ensure every Cub gets a turn to ride.
Toboggan Pull: Run the toboggan out to the pylon, around it, and back to the starting pylon. On returning to the beginning, a pulling Cub should take a turn on the toboggan, and the rider should join the pulling team.
Try an alternative:
Toboggan relay: Cubs travel by twos. A Cub pulls the sled while one sits and rides to the center pylon. At the midpoint, they must switch their pull/rider positions and return to the start for their team’s next pair to take their turn.
11. Do Your Best - Taken
Find the pieces of the promise and then put them together in correct order
12. Snow Fort Tug of War - Taken
Build a wall of snow at least chest high, split into two teams with hands on opposite ends of a rope and start pulling. The losing team crashes through the wall of snow.
13. Snow Soccer - Taken
Normal soccer rules, 1 ball, use pilons to mark out the goal posts. Get everyone moving and warm.
14. Ice Haul - Taken
Similar to Suggested Cub activity - Log Haul.
Equipment: 2 Sonotubes - each painted light blue and wrapped in plastic wrap and packing tape (to look like ice). 2 pylons.
Instructions: Two Cub sections compete against each other.
Each six stands in a line.

15. Snow Golf - Taken
Cubs will try to putt into a tuna can buried in the snow using hockey sticks
